Position description:
The 4D CELL Biology Lab at UCSD has an immediate opening for a Research Assistant in deep learning at the level of masters, PhD, or postdoc. You will develop deep learning-based image processing pipelines for petabytes of 4D lattice light-sheet microscopy data and work on cutting-edge deep learning methods applied to cellular 4D lattice light-sheet microscopy images. The desired start date is 04/01/2025 (as soon as possible).
Your goal will be to obtain drug performance and disease readouts from human cells that have been imaged using live 4D adaptive optics lattice light-sheet microscopy. You will be part of an interdisciplinary team of computer scientists, engineers, optical physicists, human stem cell organoid biologists, and pharmacologists, who are passionate about using revolutionary technology in microscopy, cell biology, and deep learning to positively influence human health.
Minimum requirements
Bachelor, Masters, or PhD in a related field
Experience in self-supervised learning, transformer-based architectures
Experience in biomedical image segmentation using deep learning
A passion for creating innovative techniques, and applying them to cure human disease
Demonstrated record of high-quality publications in the field
Creative, collaborative, and innovation-focused
Highly desired qualifications:
Experience in 2D/3D tracking, 2D/3D segmentation
Expertise in at least one additional area of computer vision, machine learning, and computer graphics (e.g., deep convolutional neural networks, object detection, tracking, segmentation, image and video compression, image and video processing, 3D geometry, SLAM, multi-view geometry, simulation, graphics rendering)
To Apply:
Please send your CV, the desired start date, and 5 sentences about your goals to Dr. Joh Schöneberg (jschoeneberg@health.ucsd.edu).
About the 4D CELL Biology Laboratory
The mission of the 4D Computer Science Engineering Lattice Light-Sheet (CELL) Biology Laboratory is to accelerate the advent of 4D high content screening in live human tissues. The lab is located at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) in the Department of Pharmacology which is consistently ranked among the top 5 in Best Global Universities for Pharmacology and Toxicology since 2017. Known as Biotech Beach, San Diego is known as a hub for biotechnology and medical innovations. Opportunities for cross-training and networking are enormous with several top-rank institutions (UCSD, Salk, Sanford Burnham Prebys, and La Jolla Allergy and Immunology), top-rank hospitals, and biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies in the neighborhood.
Background requirements
Related fields are electrical or biomedical engineering, computer science, data science, medical physics, or a related field with a research focus on image compression, biomedical image processing/medical image computing, machine learning, computer vision
Looking forward to hearing from you!
